DON'T BE SO KURT

I guess the main thing I thought Kurt Loder was right about (see the blog below and the comments) is that the music is stretched too thin. I think we all agree that Dark Side is a sonic masterpiece, and the Wall sounds different (although I would hardly call it "flat" aurally). I really love the sounds on the record. The main thing Loder got was the sheer length of the album, as anyone who's tried to cover it knows is a bit much.

Who would be so stupid as to cover The Wall? What an assenine notion, only a crazy man would do that,

Had I attempted to cover the entire album and then some like you guys did I might be inclined to feel the same re: stretchd too thin, but I really love The Wall. Like The Who's "Tommy", it is a record that I sit down and liten to long stretches of vs. a song or two. These are different listening experiences from the standard length LP/disc listening session. I always find new things the hear when I listen to The Wall. You guys always point out cool stuff that I haven't heard before we we're together. The thing that strikes me most about The Wall is that it sounds like it's a bigger production than it really is. The acoustic guitar tunes sound like big think band numbers when in reality it's just two acoustic guitars and a little bit of synth behind them. It's brilliant. Loder is entitiled to his own, but he's still a dork...

One hour and twenty minutes is a bit much to expect anyone to sit through I guess, but Andy Rock did, so it can be done.

It's funny, now that 80 minute CD's are available, the Wall could be marketed as a single record. Once you went beyond that 40-45 minute mark, back in the vinyl days, you were pretty much stuck with going to to 80 minutes. Now, I've made rap records that are almost 80 minutes long, and they aren't really double albums. They are, however, too long.
