SOME CALL ME THE GANGSTER OF LOVE

Annie sent me this tidbit.

On the day I was born, January 9, 1974, the Number 1 song in the US was "The Joker" by the Steve Miller Band. Makes sense. I've been a joker, a smoker, AND a midnight toker, and from time to time I do still get my lovin' on the run.

I was nine, plenty of joking, but none of the other stuff.

I remember some girls in my 7th grade class playing that album in heavy rotation when we had to stay inside for recess due to weather at Our Lady Of Mt. Carmel Elementary School in Newport News VA. The chicks that brought it in were the same ones who turned me on to weed for the first time (choir loft of the church if that's not cliche enough). The nuns were clueless as what the themes of most of the music we'd play on the shitty institutional record players. Lot's of Zep, Skynyrd, Ted Nugent, Aerosmith, etc... and of course Kiss.

This period marked the first time that I'd show distain for top 40 lovers ("Get that gay ass 'WildFire' single out of here, we ain't playin' that...")
